We have designed an INSET day for 7 partner schools to attend. The day will consist of an introductory workshop followed by 2 live demonstration lessons with classes from Years 4 and 5. Teachers will then see our ideas come to fruition. The lessons will last for 90 minutes to allow pupils to explore the mathematical possibilities before embarking on quality time choosing and exploring the properties of a variety of art materials with which to create their artwork.
Teachers will then be given a pack of resources to support the day. These will include further mathematical activities that link with the two themes of the day – dots
WOKINGHAM MATHEMATICS & ART PROJECT
The project links the primary mathematical expertise of a numeracy consultant with a practising artist to consider ways to make cross-curricular links in the two subjects. Our chosen artist is Karen Howard, director of her interior design company At Home Design (www.At-Home-Design.co.uk).
In order to tackle this project in a methodical way it was agreed that we should launch the project in a manner that will be manageable for the normal class teacher who may not have much interest of skill in teaching art to 30 pupils.
