Working for Reading as a busy primary consultant we never seemed to find the time to tackle transition from primary to secondary school effectively. Our mathematics team had organised LINK visits and shared ideas between Year 6 and Year 7 teachers.
In September this year, visits were made to 5 secondary schools in Reading to meet ‘borderline’ pupils who attained 3A/4C in their KS2 SATS. The consultant delivered a demonstration diagnostic lesson and then held a detailed feedback session to discuss the outcomes

and next steps. The experience was really rewarding and something we feel should happen again next year.
The next steps are to carry out pupil attainment interviews at the end of November and then to design materials to support borderline pupils entering secondary school in 2005.

Keep an eye out on the website for further details as the project develops.
